【Course Objectives】

Through practice and performance of Wadaiko, students will deepen the understanding of the Japanese drums and learn about the concepts and methods of this traditional Japanese culture. Further, students will explore techniques and methods of Wadaiko performance as Japanese culture and as a form of exercise.

【Course Contents】

This course, especially designed for beginners, will focus on practicing basic movements and techniques of the Japanese drums to acquire basic skills necessary for Wadaiko performance. Through practice and performance, students will enhance their abilities regarding the cultural enjoyment of Wadaiko, improve their physical fitness and health through Wadaiko as an exercise form, and finally expand their possibilities of body expression and self-expression. In addition, lectures will introduce the historical background of Wadaiko as a traditional Japanese culture and the significance and way of thinking of the Japanese drums attracting people all over the world.
