This course is designed for students who have completed the first half of intermediate-level study. Students will learn to read sentences on general topics. They will be able to comprehend the contents while understanding structure and development of sentences. They will also read written materials expressing different perspectives on the same topic and become able to understand the details of each position. Finally, reading comprehension will be used as a tool to build students’ active and passive vocabulary knowledge.
Students will be presented a variety of reading materials in various styles, such as descriptions, essays, newspaper articles, and novels, to learn reading skills, comprehend contents, etc. Students will also discuss the things they have read and practice communicating content to others. They will summarize sentences as well, both in class and as homework. Moreover, quizzes on designated vocabulary will be given every class in order to build vocabulary.

中級(ちゅうきゅう)前半(ぜんはん)修了(しゅうりょう)レベルの学習者(がくしゅうしゃ)を対象(たいしょう)とする。一般的(いっぱんてき)な事柄(ことがら)について書(か)かれた文章(ぶんしょう)を読(よ)めるようにする。文章(ぶんしょう)の構成(こうせい)や展開(てんかい)をとらえながら，内容(ないよう)が理解(りかい)できるようにする。 また，同(おな)じテーマについて異(こと)なる視点(してん)で書(か)かれた文章(ぶんしょう)を読(よ)み，それぞれの内容(ないよう)が理解(りかい)できるようにする。さらに，読解(どっかい)を通(とお)して使用(しよう)語彙(ごい)，理解(りかい)語彙(ごい)を増(ふ)やす。

説明文(せつめいぶん)，エッセイ，新聞(しんぶん)記事(きじ)，小説(しょうせつ)など様々(さまざま)なスタイルの読解(どっかい)教材(きょうざい)を取(と)り上(あ)げ，読(よ)みのスキルの学習(がくしゅう)，内容(ないよう)把握(はあく)などを行(おこな)う。読(よ)んだ内容(ないよう)に基(もと)づいた話(はな)し合(あ)いや，内容(ないよう)を他(ほか)の人(ひと)に伝(つた)える練習(れんしゅう)も行(おこな)う。また，文章(ぶんしょう)の要約(ようやく)を授業(じゅぎょう)で扱(あつか)い，宿題(しゅくだい)として課(か)す。さらに，語彙(ごい)を増(ふ)やすために，指定(してい)された語彙(ごい)の小(しょう)テストを行(おこな)う。
