【Course Objectives】

This course offers a hands-on learning experience, particularly tailored to meet the distinct challenges faced by the tourism and travel industry in its post-COVID-19 recovery phase. By thinking about how to solve these challenges and how to tackle them through practical work, participants will acquire "practical views and ideas that can respond to changes in the environment and essential skills as a member of society", which will be useful in their respective workplaces after graduation.

【Course Contents】

Tourism, heralded as a pivotal industry of the 21st century, is currently navigating its resurgence following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This sector is garnering significant interest for its crucial role in addressing social issues both in Japan and internationally.
Our course will explore tourism as an instrument for resolving local social challenges, including inbound tourism. Participants will engage in group discussions focused on developing travel products and devising sales strategies tailored for the post-pandemic era, aiming to contribute to the resolution of societal issues through tourism.
The course is structured in three integrated phases: "Lecture" providing foundational knowledge and specific case studies on the topic, "Group Discussion" to further explore the lecture material, and "Presentation and Review".
We are planning course designs and sales promotion strategies to revitalize the nighttime economy in Tokyo using double-decker, open-top buses (Sky Buses).
The objective is to actively engage in product planning that addresses issues such as revitalizing the nighttime economy and mitigating the severe summer heat in Tokyo.
This course aims to let participants reach a level where they can actually work on product planning, then sell it to the market as travel products.
Once it is decided to launch these products in the market, we will explore various promotion strategies, including issuing Press Releases and utilizing social media for marketing purposes.
Through these activities, participants will acquire not only planning and proposal skills, but also practical and essential skills as businesspersons, such as teamwork and presentation skills.
As fieldwork, Sky Bus nighttime tour in Tokyo will be conducted on May 12th (Sunday).
Attendance at the fieldwork is strongly recommended.
Students are required to take the fall semester course "Travel Industry Seminar 1 (B)" consecutively.
