【Course Objectives】

Aimed at students interested in the hotel business, providing an overview of the hotel industry and its internal structure, as well as necessary elements for the hotelier (professional hotel businessman) to consider. [Ryokan inns and hotels covered as one category] Students will gain an overview of hotel industry knowledge (terms, companies, brands, business structures etc.) and skills (PC, communication, presentation, writing etc.) as well as in ideas (logical thinking, business thinking).

【Course Contents】

This seminar will follow a format repeating these 5 interactions: 1. Hotel industry introductory Lecture) 2. Group work 3. Presentation 4. Fieldwork 5. Interaction with guest speaker. That is, knowledge with not only increase through repetition of the inputs and throughputs (thoughts, discussions and activities), and communication output, but students will hone skills to understand the true nature of things. We will consider the accommodation industry as a business, examining the significance and value of existence of hotels and ryokan businesses throughout the tourism industry. Classes and office communications, and presentations are to make full use of PCs. In the fieldwork, we will be inviting an number of interesting guest speakers from the hotels we actually visit, including businessmen active on the frontline of the hotel industry, such as the manager and general managers.
