【Course Objectives】

Students will learn basic knowledge regarding urban planning, historical environmental conservation, and machizukuri. In addition to literature, we will value the stance of learning from the actual area.

【Course Contents】

With the target of large urban areas and hot spring areas with historical buildings, and urban spaces in historical areas, we will think about the history of the area, spatial modifications of the area, modification of applications, the history of urban planning, preservation of the townscape and systems, policies, and mechanisms for using it for tourism, preservation of the townscape and survey/research from the perspective of citizen's activities, etc. regarding tourism urban planning, issues related to tourism in historical townscapes, and methods for solving them.
In addition, on suitable weekends, we will visit historical townscapes of the Kanto region and conduct surveys. During summer vacation, we plan to do group surveys of historical townscapes in the Hokuriku region and participate in an academic conference.
