【Course Objectives】

Through the creation of plots and scenarios and the analysis of films, students will examine the importance of screenplays, which form a core element in films and dramas, focusing primarily on the theme of how an appealing character can be created.

【Course Contents】

To understand what a screenplay entails, students will refer to existing films and then write or reproduce their screenplays to understand the corresponding outlines. From there, students will create a plot (a text of around 200 words to express the content of the story) and write a screenplay for an independent short film (approximately 15–30 minutes long). During this process, students will gain practical experience by receiving critiques from the instructor and engaging in class discussions to understand how an appealing character can be created. An assignment will generally be given for each class, and students are expected to have read the work that other students have submitted before attending the lectures. Students will also be required to watch one film of their own choice every week and be prepared to briefly share their impressions of the works during the lectures.
