【Course Objectives】

Students learn to understand the structure of transition and expression in Japanese geino(performance), so that they become able to discuss it and ask questions from their perspectives.

【Course Contents】

This class handles Japanese geino(performance) in broad sense. "Geino" here stands for performance in front of people along with physical practice, and performance that passed down through generations. For example, it includes not only traditional performances like Noh and kabuki, but also modern theater, dancing, sports, variety shows, and even practical cultural arts like tea ceremony and flower arrangement.
The class features 2 main activities. 1) Common task involving the whole class. Students report the results of activities like reading literature, watching theater plays, interview people engaging in geino. 2) Students present the results of their study and observations of an example of geino, prepared based on their own preferences, and discuss them with the class.
L1 sets the main points for getting basic knowledge of of geino.
