【Course Objectives】

Students learn to grasp the plural mechanism of gentrification that enacts material transformation, physical experiments, and cultural representation in urban space, and to analyze it critically from the point of gender and sexuality.

【Course Contents】

In her "Gentrification is Inevitable and Other Lies", a feminist geographer Leslie Kern argues today's gentrification from the point of gender and sexuality, and articulates that the liberation from gentrification needs intersectional analysis and practice about gender, sexuality, class, race, ethnicity, disability, and so on. In this lecture, we comprehend her discussion with the review of theories she refers, and present some developmental issues. Through this lecture, we promote to learn that gentrification is especially a problem of gender and sexuality, and to train a critical attitude to the urban space we live in.
