【Course Objectives】

In this course, we will show how the two different fields of "care (therapy)" and "expression" can contact each other and consider what happens to the body and mind when they fuse together. From both artistic and psychological perspectives, we will ask how people with difficulties and disabilities in various social environments can recover their lives and powers through the artistic practices, including music and dance. We will also discuss how we can go beyond the one-way relation of caring for and being cared for to achieve a rich relation of both sides.

【Course Contents】

The lecture will be given by a therapist (music therapist) and performer and a dance performer having interacted with the elderly, physically disabled, and dementia patients through dance. Various guest speakers will be invited to talk about their experiences as a video artist and a painter who started their art activities after the Great East Japan Earthquake, a poet who has been working in Kamagasaki, Nishinari-ku, Osaka City, a town of day laborers, a dancer who has been engaged in art activities while attending a facility for the disabled in Nara City for many years, and a person who is engaged in creative activities while living with a disability. We will analyze what is happening there and explore what the human is, what the mind is, and what a life is.
Below is a rough syllabus for this class, but there is a possibility that the class contents and speed will be changed depending on participants.
