【Course Objectives】

(1) Purpose of class
 The purpose of this lecture is to understand the essence of the Japanese Constitutional Law. Students will learn the necessary essence of the Constitution. Specifically, the aim is for the class to progress explaining the various constitutional issues, constitutional precedents, and various theories for students to understand. In addition, we will consider the development of educated university students, as well as measures for the teacher recruitment exam.
(2) Acquiring the ability to learn.
 Acquisition and understanding of systematic knowledge related to the Japanese Constitutional Law (knowledge and understanding).
(3) Class objectives
 The goal of this class is gaining essential knowledge of the Japanese Constitutional Law. For this, we need to understand the origins of the Constitution, and how it is enacted. In addition, what is “consensus” in interpreting the statute, and how would one interpret “correctly” to arrive at a final answer on “what is constitutional law” or “what is the Japanese Constitutional Law”? Furthermore, the aim is for students to express their own words regarding this question.

【Course Contents】

The class overview is, firstly, the historical development of the constitution (constitutional history, history of enactment, including the legislative process etc.), secondly, we examine Japanese Constitutional Law focusing on its three major principles: sovereignty of the people, pacifism, and respect for basic human rights, and thirdly, we will consider what influence the Japanese Constitutional Law has had on Japanese society in reality.
 In addition, in the course of classes, tutors will keep language simple and maintain interactive dialogues.
