【Course Objectives】

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of "citizenship education" in nurturing citizens who play a role in democratic societies. This course aims to foster a critical understanding of the historical evolution of citizenship education and its trends in various countries. It also aims to examine critically citizenship education in Japanese school.

【Course Contents】

In this class, course takers will learn about the historical establishment and development of "citizenship education." Specifically, we will focus on Japanese school education and organize the trends of various initiatives intended for citizenship education. Building upon this, participants will reflect on their own experiences with school education and collaboratively consider the challenges and background of citizenship education in Japan. Therefore, in addition to lectures, participants will make presentations and exchange of opinions with others.
