【Course Objectives】

With non-violence as the keyword, each participant will write a paper related to modern and contemporary Japanese literature in line with his/her own interests.
Through the presentation and discussion, participants will deepen their understanding of literary works, criticism, and philosophy of thought related to the keywords, and at the same time, advance their understanding of the latest literary research.

【Course Contents】

The theme of non-violence will be used to read literary texts while learning the basic concepts for considering this issue.
It also enhances the development of students’ skill in making oral presentation and self-regulated learning.
The texts covered will range from those published in the Meiji period to contemporary literature.
Furthermore, in order to think about nonviolence, it is of course necessary to know about violence, self-defense, war, and racism, and to cultivate an understanding of these issues.
