【Course Objectives】

In this course, students will read literary works and criticism related to the idea of Okinawa, gaining an understanding of the stance and historical background of each writer. At the same time, students will acquire the critical abilities and power of description necessary to write a thesis.

【Course Contents】

Students will read literary works and criticism written by non-Okinawans that depict Okinawa. If there is demand from the students, a master’s thesis interim report and guidance relating to it can be slotted in. We will be dealing with relatively older works. Specifically, Kazuo Hirotsu, Ashihei Hino, T, Ro Takenaka, Taro Okamoto, and so on. During the latter half of the course, students will read literary works bay Okinawan writers. Details will be explained at the first class.
