【Course Objectives】

To be able to analyze various problems related to cities and regions in accordance with the theoretical framework of economics.
To be able to logically explain the concept of economics of cities and regions.

【Course Contents】

This course is a seminar-style study of texts dealing with the basic concepts and theoretical framework of urban economics. As an introduction, we will confirm that the distribution of economic activities is spatially heterogeneous. In the first half of the course, we will examine the relationship between intra-city structure and scale among multiple cities in the framework of urban economics. In the second half, we will use spatial economics to understand that the distribution of economic activity (the reason why agglomeration occurs) can be explained by endogenizing the flow of people and goods.
In class we emphasize presentations by students and active discussions. The textbook used and the content of the class may be changed depending on the level of understanding of the students and their areas of interest.
