【Course Objectives】

By the end of the semester, students are expected to:

1、develop reading skill through critical reading of the basic literatures of international politics;
2、produce a book review;
3、understand the paradigms of international politics.

【Course Contents】

In this class, we will read basic literatures in international relations. I assume that the students have already studied the paradigms of IR at the undergraduate level, but reading the original works will undoubtedly deepen their understanding of these paradigms. In addition, reading thse essential works gives us insights that are often ommitted in the textbooks of IR.

Reading assignments include literatures from 20th century such as Morgenthau, Nye, and Waltz. We will also read widely-read works in the 21st century. This will reveal the characteristics and changes in American IR.

The volume of reading materials will be adjusted according to the number of participants and their proficiency in IR, so be sure to attend the first session. Course schedule may significantly change accordingly.
