【Course Objectives】

Students will gain knowledge of historical events, literary texts, and critical issues related to Christianity in Japan, from the sixteenth-century mission to the modern day. Class lectures, weekly short response posts, and a short research paper at the end of term will develop related academic skills.

【Course Contents】

Each class session will be centered on a reading selection (in English, with Japanese originals also available in some cases), and students will submit short responses (one paragraph) on Canvas LMS. Lectures will discuss each reading, in dialogue with students' response essays. One short final paper (1000 words) on a topic of interest from the class is due at the end of term.
