【Course Objectives】

We will explore Ivan Illich's thought, which is deeply critical of the various aspects of modern industrialized societies, to gain a renewed perspective on the status of humanity and subjectivity.

【Course Contents】

We will read and discuss Ivan Illich's books shown below.
Illich offered critical perspectives on the various aspects of modern industrialized societies. His critical take on modern educational and medical systems and global developmentalism can be associated with the contemporary themes of postcolonialism, environmental ethics, ethics of care, disability studies, and postsecularism.
Each class will be discussed based on the presenter's presentation.
