【Course Objectives】

The "Innovative Welfare State" is the 21st century form of the welfare state. To analyze its structure, we will study labor-management relations and vocational training under labor-management partnership.

【Course Contents】

Innovative welfare states can be defined as "states in which the institutions and values of the welfare state promote innovative human resources and organizations, and in which innovation is easily induced. The Nordic countries can serve as models for innovative welfare states. Denmark, in particular, is a good model in terms of its well-developed vocational training system, high level of labor-management partnership, and small social disparities. It offers a model for Japan's "new capitalism," whose goal is a "virtuous circle of growth and distribution. In the spring semester, we will first examine the concept of Japan's "new capitalism" and also review research papers on Japan's vocational training system. Next, we will read a paper on Danish vocational training policy.
