Notes KA457Special Lecture on Conference Presentationと合同授業
Text Code QA359

【Course Objectives】

For research students, presenting at their first international conferences can be a daunting challenge.
This course provides an opportunity for students to be guided and mentored on the various aspects of participation in international conferences, and to role play their participation, in a supportive environment of other students and the Lecturer, using the content of their actual research dissertation/thesis.

【Course Contents】

The course will cover the various aspects of attending an international conference, from choosing a suitable conference, preparing the submission, preparing presentation materials, such as slides or posters, answering audience questions and discussing other papers, and finally, networking with conference participants for future research collaborations.
After the class, students will understand the importance of attending overseas conferences in the development of their future academic careers, in getting feedback for their research and in developing their network of future research collaborators. More practically, students develop the actual materials for their participation in their first international conference, i.e. the conference abstract and conference paper, presentation slides and poster board posters, and practiced responses to questions from the participants of that conference. In addition to the immediate conference materials at hand, students should have the confidence to face the community of scholars in international conferences and beyond.
