【Course Objectives】

The objective of this course is to understand the formation and variability of atmospheres and plasmas around the Earth and other planets. It also aims to understand the fundamentals of measurement techniques with ground-based telescope and spacecraft.

【Course Contents】

The Earth and planetary atmospheres show variations in the wide range of time and spatial scales.
Students will learn the basic physics and understand the fundamental properties of planetary atmosphere and the surrounding space environment. The concepts of measurements for planetary atmosphere by remote-sensing with ground-based telescope and spacecraft in ultraviolet, visible, and infrared wavelength, and in-situ measurement of plasma will be explained. Students will also learn the basics of spectroscopy through practical training in which each student will develop a simple spectrometer, conduct experiments, and analyze the results.
