【Course Objectives】

 This course is designed for graduate students who are at the onset of their research journey. It aims to provide foundational knowledge and skills necessary for engaging in research activities. Students will learn about research ethics, methods of research, and academic writing. The course is structured to ensure that students acquire the essential knowledge to conduct research and write academic papers ethically and competently. Furthermore, it will enable students to undertake basic research activities and develop foundational research competencies essential for thesis writing.

【Course Contents】

 In recent years, various instances of research misconduct have emerged within the academic community. In the field of political science, overlooking or disregarding the rules of citation and annotation can lead to situations considered as research misconduct. This course begins with an introduction to research ethics, helping students to understand what constitutes unethical practices. Following this, students will learn practical methods of information gathering. The course also delves into the diverse research methodologies employed in various subfields of political science, enabling students to apply these techniques in developing their research topics into well-structured academic papers.
 Initially, the course will cover crucial aspects of research ethics and methods of academic writing that are vital for future research activities. In the second half, students will enrich their understanding of political science research methods by studying and discussing key texts and the latest exemplary research in various sub-disciplines of the field.
