In this course, students will learn to independently analyze theoretical texts on moving images. Students will also deepen their theoretical understanding of moving images, particularly in animation as a form of visual-culture.
The aim of this course is to examine "anime" as Japanese commercial animation through the reading of Stevie Suan's book. The "anime" as Japanese commercial animation is not given in its style and narrative form, but is constructed in the condition of neoliberal economy that leads to a particular social, cultural, and industrial situation. The course examines a case study of how a visual characteristic is industrially and culturally constructed and recognized.

映像に関する理論的な文章を自身で読み解けるようになる。映像に関する理論的な理解、とりわけアニメーションという視覚-文化的な形態への理論的な理解を深める。
In this course, students will learn to independently analyze theoretical texts on moving images. Students will also deepen their theoretical understanding of moving images, particularly in animation as a form of visual-culture.
Stevie Suan の著作を中心に講読を行うことで、「アニメ」と呼ばれる日本の商業用アニメーションについて検討する。日本の商業用アニメーションとしての「アニメ」は、そのスタイルと内容的な形式において自明のものではなく、新自由主義経済とそれに伴う社会、文化、産業的な条件の中で構築されたものだと考えられる。この授業はしたがって、ある映像的な特徴やそれについての認識が構築される例を検討するものである。
