Students will understand the strengths and weaknesses of sociological theories on "social problems" and then attempt to construct their theoretical perspectives. Students will also examine methodologies and research ethics for studying "social problems.
Students will learn how to deal with them through reading important literature in criminology and the sociology of welfare on contemporary "social problems". We will then discuss the applicability of the literature to students' research.
In the second half of the class, students will write a term paper based on the literature review and discussion.
We will detemine about the order and distribution of the texts to be covered after starting class.

「社会問題」に関する社会学理論について、その強みと弱みを理解し、その上で自身の理論的視座の構築を試みる。また、「社会問題」について研究するための方法論や調査倫理について考察する。
Students will understand the strengths and weaknesses of sociological theories on "social problems" and then attempt to construct their theoretical perspectives. Students will also examine methodologies and research ethics for studying "social problems.
現代の「社会問題」に関して、犯罪社会学および福祉社会学における重要文献を輪読を通じて、その向き合い方について学ぶ。その上で各自の調査研究への応用可能性について議論を行う。
授業の後半では、文献レビューと議論の内容に基づき、タームペーパーを執筆してもらう。
なお、扱うテキストの順番や分配等については受講者と相談した上で最終的に判断する。
