The purpose of this course is to help students understand the theoretical aspects of machine learning and deep learning. This course will also prepare students to learn new concepts and algorithms from scholarly literature.
Using a few chapters from "Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning" (M.Bishop.) and a few chapters from “Deep Learning” (I. Goodfellow et al.), students will learn the basics of statistical machine learning theory and will be introduced to the theoretical aspects of deep learning.

機械学習・深層学習の理論的側面について理解する。それによって、新しい理論やアルゴリズムを文献を通じて身につけるための訓練を行う。

"Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning" (M.Bishop.) から数章を選び、機械学習の理論的側面の基礎を学ぶ。その上で、 "Deep Learning" (I. Goodfellow et al.) の数章を用いて、深層学習の理論的側面についての輪講を行う。
Using a few chapters from "Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning" (M.Bishop.) and a few chapters from “Deep Learning” (I. Goodfellow et al.), students will learn the basics of statistical machine learning theory and will be introduced to the theoretical aspects of deep learning.

輪講までに微積分法（偏微分と積分の基礎）、線形代数の基礎（行列とベクトルの扱い）、確率論・統計学の基礎について復習して臨むこと。また、機械学習の入門的知識や、Pythonによるプログラミングの予習をおこなって臨むことが歓迎される。復習に関しては理論的内容だけではなく、テキストで学んだ理論的内容をPythonで実際に実装して実験的に確認することで理解が深まる。

本科目は、5年以上の実務経験を有する実務家教員による授業であり、全授業回数の50％以上がディスカッションなど双方向形式の授業によって運営される。
