The aim of this seminar is to learn basic knowledge and skills to conduct research and write a master's thesis, as the seminar students go over theoretical and methodological frameworks on intercultural communication studies and clarify their research themes and methods.
As students review previous studies related to their research themes on the basis of their expertise on intercultural communication studies and other related fields, they will clarify their themes and research methods. In class, the students will give presentations not only on previous studies related to their topics but also their research progress. They will be provided with specific guidance for analyzing data and writing an academic paper.

修士論文作成に向けて、異文化コミュニケーション研究の理論的・方法論的枠組みを概観しつつ、研究テーマを明確化し、研究を遂行し、論文を執筆するうえで必要な知識を身につけることを目的とする。
The aim of this seminar is to learn basic knowledge and skills to conduct research and write a master's thesis, as the seminar students go over theoretical and methodological frameworks on intercultural communication studies and clarify their research themes and methods.
異文化コミュニケーション関連科目ならびにその研究領域に関連する科目の履修によって得られる専門知識を踏まえ、個々の研究関心に応じて国内外の先行研究の動向を把握し、各自の研究テーマと方法を明確化していく。さらに、受講生に個々の研究テーマと関連する研究や自身の研究の進捗について発表をしてもらいながら、研究指導を行う。
As students review previous studies related to their research themes on the basis of their expertise on intercultural communication studies and other related fields, they will clarify their themes and research methods. In class, the students will give presentations not only on previous studies related to their topics but also their research progress. They will be provided with specific guidance for analyzing data and writing an academic paper.

授業外では、指定テキストを読み、授業でディスカッションできるように備えてください。また、発表を担当する場合は、発表資料を作成し、事前に教員にメール添付で送付してください。自身の研究テーマに関連する論文、書籍を読んで、その内容を要約し、批判的に検討してください。また各自の研究テーマの文献や自身で行った調査の内容について発表する場合も、資料を作成し、事前に教員に送付してください。レポートは、修士論文の引用方法や参考文献の記載方法に沿って、すべて「The Rikkyo Style」に従ってください。そのため、The Rikkyo Styleを早めに確認し、表記方法に慣れてください。学会や研究会の情報も教員から案内しますので、積極的に参加してください。

インタビューを含めたディスコース（テクスト＋コンテクスト）を分析したり、フィールドワークを行ったりする「質的研究」というジャンルの研究方法を用いて調査を進めるため、高度な統計的処理を伴うアンケート調査を行う研究を志向する院生には適していないことに留意してください。Please note that since the research will be conducted using research methods of the "qualitative research" genre, which involves analyzing discourses (text + context) including interviews and conducting fieldwork, it is not suitable for graduate students who are interested in conducting research that involves questionnaire surveys with advanced statistical processing.
