This is the introductory module for the Translation Professional Training Program. It aims to help students develop a critical view of various translation strategies and form their own ideas about what a good translation should be like. It also aims to provide students with basic translation skills.
This course is designed to explore a variety of translation strategies with a view to narrowing them down to those that actually work in practice and help students build basic translation skills through exercises. On the theoretical side, it will familiarize students with several major translation theories and the backgrounds against which they were developed, while encouraging discussion on the pros and cons of each.

翻訳について、さまざまな考え方を学ぶ。翻訳のさまざまなストラテジーを批判的に考察する力をつける。「良い翻訳とは何か」について、自分の考えを持つ。基礎的な翻訳スキルを習得する。

実践に役立つ翻訳ストラテジーの探求と、英日翻訳演習を通じた基礎的翻訳スキルの習得を目指す。理論については、これまで提唱されてきた代表的な翻訳理論を紹介し、その発展経緯を考察する。各理論の優れた点と欠点を考察する。

翻訳演習の課題のほか短い文章の翻訳が宿題として随時課されるので、期限内に提出すること。Students are expected to work on assignments and submit them in time.

授業では学生への質問も活発に行う予定なので、積極的な受講態度が期待される。受講者の中から司会者を決めて訳文講評を行う。
英語の非母語話者は TOEFL iBT 100, TOEIC 880, IELTS 7.0, または英検１級を取得しておくこと。日本語の非母語話者は N1を取得しておくこと。
初回の授業には必ず出席してください。授業内容は、クラスの構成等により変更する可能性があります。
