【Course Objectives】

Students will (1) understand the connection between intercultural communication studies and memory studies, and (2) examine the relationship between historical revisionism (or denial) and racism and nationalism by referring to the concept of cultural memory.

【Course Contents】

Memory as a social act, intertwined with culture, history, identity, and media, is a significantly relevant concept to intercultural communication studies. This course will first examine the connection between intercultural communication studies and memory studies. Then we will gain an overview of memory studies by reading an introductory textbook of memory studies. Lastly, we will explore the relationship between historical revisionism (or denial) and racism and nationalism—critical issues of intercultural communication—by referring to the concept of cultural memory.
