Through reading principal texts on image and image theory, students will not only acquire a new way of thinking about the image but also be able to construct his/her critical framework on the image.
In this course, students will read excerpts of R. Barthes, La chambre claire: note sur la photographie (Japanese edition 1997), W.T.J. Mitchell, What Do Pictures Want? (2005), and H. Belting, An Anthropology of Images(English edition 2011). Along with in-depth readings of these texts, students will participate in discussions and presentations to hone their critical thinking on the image and construct a new framework to study the image.

この講義では、各種のイメージ論の講読をもとに、イメージの捉え方や考え方について理解を深めることを目標とする。また、履修生が応用的に新たなイメージ論を構築できることをめざす。

イメージについて書かれた、ロラン・バルト『明るい部屋』(原書1980年・和訳1997年）、W.J.T.ミッチェル What Do Pictures Want ?:The Lives and Loves of Images（2005年）、H.ベルティングAn Anthropology of Images: Picture, Medium, Body(原書2001年・英訳2011年）より抜粋を講読する。講読箇所は、授業計画に記載の予定だが、履修生の要望によっては、別の個所を講読箇所として採用する可能性もある。
講読を踏まえ、応用的に新たなイメージ研究の方向性を構築することを目指し、討論や発表を定期的に行う。
