【Course Objectives】

The goals of this course are to
(1) Deepen understanding of social security functions of post-war family and discuss the current welfare problems from the perspectives of sociology,
(2) Acquire the abilities to collect and interpret the statistical data for your own interest and research.
(3) Acquire the abilities to link the findings obtained through the class to academic presentations and paper writing.

【Course Contents】

Family is one of the social systems, along with public social security and economic activities(employment), which support people's social lives.
Demographic and family changes, represented by the rapid declining birthrate and aging, pose a great threat to the core of social security systems and cause various welfare problems around employment and informal care(e.g. housework, childcare, and elderly care).
In this course, we review the recent theoretical or empirical research in family sociology and demography, and deepen understanding of the relationships between family and social security, and these historical changes.
