【Course Objectives】

The circumstances surrounding city development have changed dramatically from those of the past. In an era where population decline and shrinkage will be the default, the way cities should and will change. In this class, from the perspective of a different approach to urban development, we will examine in detail the challenges faced by various declining cities around the world, analyze their success factors, and look for hints for future city development in Japan.

【Course Contents】

Since Urban Management 1 and 2 are independent, it is possible to take only one of them.
Many cities are no longer expected to grow in the conventional way and are searching for a new way of life. What awaits us after industrial decline, how to overcome hardships such as economic contraction and disasters, and how to promote city development in the midst of financial contraction? In the class, we will read the text in turn, and the assigned person will make a presentation, followed by a discussion of the contents and suggestions by all participants.
