【Course Objectives】

This course 1) offers an introduction to Japanese education system, and 2) helps students understand the features of Japanese learners of English. By the end of the course, students will have basic understanding about the history and current situations of English language education in Japan, and specific features of Japanese learners of English and what it means to study English for the Japanese students. The goal is to consider teaching methods suitable for Japanese English learners and approaches that are more culturally responsive, and to apply them to the analysis and examination of students' own research topics.

【Course Contents】

The present course covers basic knowledge about Japanese education system and English language education, focusing specifically on Japanese contexts and learners. Students will examine and deepen their understanding through lectures and discussing issues related to English language education policies and Japanese learners of English .Opportunities to conduct lesson demonstrations will efficiently enhance students' practical and culturally responsive teaching skills.
