【Course Objectives】

Advanced Seminar I aims to support students in developing the fundamental research and writing skills necessary for successfully completing their senior thesis in their respective academic interests. Another aim of this seminar is to help students explore, determine, and refine the research topic regarding interpreting in public services.

【Course Contents】

The theme of this seminar is “Interpreting in Public Services,” which aims to introduce and explore the profession of court interpreting along with linguistic needs in other public services. In this seminar, reading materials about community interpreting will be used to help students identify research questions, methods, and techniques of existing research in the field.

During each class, students will be required to actively participate in class discussions on an assigned reading or a topic. There will be one writing assignment and two individual presentations during the semester. In conducting these assignments, students will be highly encouraged to utilize academic support services provided by Rikkyo University (e.g., library week, research and writing support services)
