Students learn about literature as a discipline, its history, and its future. This course aims to improve students' writing skills.
Focusing on 18th-century France, this course explores the object of literary studies. It provides an opportunity to reflect on literature as an academic discipline. I strictly welcome students who have felt skeptical about the typical exam question: "Read the underlined section and explain the author's feelings." Throughout the course, we will consider the fundamental question of what it means to "read a text." The course will also incorporate active learning methods, including group discussions.

文学研究という営みを理解し、文学研究の歴史と未来について学ぶ。また学生の書く力の向上も目指す。
Students learn about literature as a discipline, its history, and its future. This course aims to improve students' writing skills.
本講義では18世紀フランスを軸に、文学研究が何を対象としているのかについて学ぶ。
本講義は文学という学そのものについて考える機会でもある。現代文のテストでよくある「下線部を読んで著者の気持ちを説明せよ」という問いに不信感を抱いていた学生を歓迎する。テクストを読むとはどういうことか、について講義全体を通じて考えていきたい。
また、本講義はディスカッションといったアクティブラーニング的グループワークも実施予定である。
