This course aims to develop interpreting skills through practical interpreting training while deepening students’ understanding of intercultural communication. In addition to Japanese–English and English–Japanese interpreting skills (with a primary focus on consecutive interpreting and some exposure to simultaneous interpreting), the course also seeks to cultivate an understanding of the interpreter’s role and professional ethics from a practical, real-world perspective.
1. Students will read academic papers on interpreting training methods and the theories underlying them, and put those methods into practice.
2. Students will work on consecutive and simultaneous interpreting using video materials.
3. The course materials will not require any specific background knowledge or specialized expertise.
4. During class, students will perform actual interpreting tasks individually and in pairs.
5. A vocabulary quiz will be given at the beginning of each class, so students are expected to prepare in advance.
6. Students should complete both preparation (e.g., reading English texts aloud, summarizing English texts, summarizing Japanese texts) and review (e.g., producing translations, recording interpreted audio) of the materials covered in class.
7. In addition, assignments may be given as needed, depending on students’ progress.

立教大学では、1単位につき授業時間を含めて45時間の学修が求められています。これを踏まえ、各回の授業に向けた予習および授業後の復習を計画的に行ってください。
学生は、毎回の授業前に扱うトピックについて事前調査を行い、自身の用語集を作成することが求められます。また、授業中の通訳パフォーマンスを録音し、後日それを聞き返した上で、レポートまたは振り返り（リフレクション）を作成してください。加えて、各自またはグループで、授業外の時間を活用して通訳練習を行うことが期待されます。
なお、受講生の進捗状況に応じて、扱うトピックが変更される場合や、補足的・補充的な演習課題が指示されることがあります。
At Rikkyo University, students are required to spend 45 hours of study (including class time) per credit. Please prepare for classes and review the materials accordingly.
Students are required to research the topic prior to each class and build up their own bilingual glossaries. Students will need to record their performance in class, then listen back to it afterwards and write a report/reflection. In addition, students will be expected to practice interpreting individually or in a group in their own time.
Topics may change and additional remedial exercises may be recommended depending on students' progress.

本科目は、実践的な通訳訓練を通して通訳スキルを習得するとともに、異文化コミュニケーションに関する理解を深めることを目的とします。日英・英日通訳スキル（逐次を中心に、一部同時通訳も含む）に加え、通訳者の役割や職業倫理についても実務的な観点からの獲得を目指します。

2. 動画を使って、逐次/同時通訳に取り組みます。
3. 教材は特定の背景知識や専門知識を特に必要としないものを扱います。
4. 授業中は個人・ペアで、実際の通訳パフォーマンスをしてもらいます。
5. 毎回の授業冒頭に単語テストを行うので、その準備をしてきてください。
6. 授業で扱う教材の予習(英文音読、英文要約、和文要約など)及び復習(訳文の作成、通訳 音声の録音)をしてください。
7. その他、受講生の進捗状況をみながら、適宜課題の提出を指示することがあります。
