【Course Objectives】

This is the final course of the Translator and Interpreter Training Program. Through a series of individual projects, students will be required to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to real-life settings. Through these individual projects, students can experience the practical challenges faced by professional translators and interpreters and develop problem-solving skills. Students are also expected to become aware of the codes of ethics for translators and interpreters and learn how to deal with clients and manage projects.

【Course Contents】

This course provides students with firsthand experience in translation and interpreting by participating in real-life projects on campus and in the local community.

At the beginning of the course, students will learn about the objective of this course, the skillsets required for translators and interpreters, and the professional mindset they need to acquire by taking part in the practicum. They will also be introduced to the various interpreting and translation opportunities available to them through Rikkyo Community Language Service (RiCoLaS), internships, part-time jobs, and other means. Based on the advice of the instructor, students will develop further plans for their individual projects.

Students will be required to keep a record of their activities in a journal during the semester, which will serve as the basis for their final report. Students are expected to share its contents with the rest of the class and submit the final report at the end of the semester.
