On successful completion of this class, students will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of the politics, economy, society, and foreign and security policy of Russia.
This course provides a broad introduction to Russian studies. We begin with a brief overview of the Soviet era. Then we explore key issues in the post-Soviet Russia, such as its political system, economic transformations and their consequences, nation-building and nationalism, gender order, demographic trends and welfare challenges, and foreign and security policy.

ロシアの政治、経済、社会、外交・安全保障政策に関する基本的な知識を習得し、それを使えるようになる。
On successful completion of this class, students will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of the politics, economy, society, and foreign and security policy of Russia.
本授業において、ロシアに関する知見を幅広く紹介する。まずソ連時代を簡単に概観し、次いでソ連解体後のロシアについて、政治体制、経済の転換とその帰結、ネイション形成とナショナリズム、ジェンダー秩序、人口動態と福祉の課題、外交・安全保障政策という重要な論点に分けて論じる。
This course provides a broad introduction to Russian studies. We begin with a brief overview of the Soviet era.
