【Course Objectives】

This course aims to shed light on a wide range of translation and interpreting practices from a historical perspective, and explore their diverse and multi-layered aspects as intercultural communications.

【Course Contents】

Translation and interpreting have been practiced from ancient times to the present in every possible place wherever different languages and cultures have encountered. Through this course, we will trace back the history of translation and interpreting practices all over the world, as well as in Japan, and examine diverse aspects of translation and interpreting as socio-cultural practices. The course provides an opportunity for students to discuss upcoming challenges and future directions of translation and interpreting from a perspective of intercultural communication.
