On successful completion of this class, students will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of the politics, economy, society, and foreign and security policy of Russia.
This course provides a broad introduction to Russian studies. We begin with a brief overview of the Soviet era. Then we explore key issues in post-Soviet Russia, such as its political system, economic transformations and consequences, nation-building and nationalism, gender order, demographic trends, and foreign and security policy.

ロシアの政治、経済、社会、外交・安全保障政策に関する基本的な知識を習得し、それを使えるようになる。

本授業において、ロシアに関する知見を幅広く紹介する。まずソ連時代を簡単に概観し、次いでソ連解体後のロシアについて、政治体制、経済の転換とその帰結、ネイション形成とナショナリズム、ジェンダー秩序、人口動態、外交・安全保障政策という重要な論点に分けて論じる。
