This course is designed to help you acquire advanced-level translation skills. It also aims to bring you to a realization that there are limits to how closely a translated text can be made to resemble the original.

【Course Contents】

In order to achieve the goals above, the course covers the following contents.
1. Understanding the difference in the way cohesion is achieved between English texts and Japanese texts.
2. Discussing various strategies to achieve equivalence.
3. Learning translation techniques in converting "mono (things)" language into "koto (event)" language.
4. Analysis of Japanese texts translated from English, English texts translated from Japanese and comparable texts originally written in each language, for types of information that tend to be added or omitted through translation.
